Gallery # 5

March 11, 2008: A worker removes a tarp from the mound of dirt oin the field.

The mound of dirt is still very big... but not for long.

Note that the retaining wall looks different.

A close-up view of a bit for a soil compactor.

A soil compactor helps ensure that the new field won't slip or slide.

A worker puts finishing tounces on a protection board that will keep the retaining wall dry.

A wheel loader begins to take away a chunk of the mound on the field.

A view of the mound.

Meanwhile, some old chunks of asphalt, concrete and masonry are placed in a separate pile.

The soil compactor works right up to the edge of the trench.

Tar was used to seal the wall from water under the field. It will work with the protection boards placed on the wall.

The wheel loader places soil in the path of the soil compactor.

PVC pipe at the foot of the retaining wall will help drain the area of water.

The wall is extensive.

Another view of the wall.

A truck supplies materials needed for the project.

Meanwhile, out on Bishops Road...

... a sewer cleaner helps in allowing drainage from the field to go out into city sewer lines.

Soil from the mound on the field is being taken away, truckload by truckload.

Friday, March 14, 2008: Much of the dirt mound has been taken away.

The skyline of Downtown is shrouded in fog.

More soil is taken from the surfact of the field...

... and more dirt is hauled away.

It is not too difficult to imagine a green field on this spot, a few months from now.

A dumpster in the left is almost full of concrete, asphalt, and masonry.

More dirt is loaded in a truck that will haul it away.

A wheel loader begins to scoop up the last remaining bit of old concrete...

... to be hauled away.

Earth moving equipment is lined up.

Soon, it will be Spring.

Another level of protection board almost covers up the wall.

The old weight room still stands, for now.

The rectory of St. Peter's is to the far left.

The gravel will soon be placed near the retaining wall.

Weekend rain may slow things down next week.

Students, recently returned from the Walk-A-Thon, await the new field and track.
