Monday, March 17, 2008: A panoramic view of the field shows progress being made. Dirt is leveled and compacted.

A water truck keeps the soil moist and the dust to a minimum.
Debris awaits removal.

Foundations for fence posts lie on their sides.

This wheel tractor scrapter helps to evenly distribute the soil.

Another panoramic view shows gravel awaiting deployment and Downtown Los Angeles in the background.

March 19, 2008. Traces of an old crypt (minus the bones-- long ago re-interred elsewhere) were found. The brick and cement need to be removed.

Note the surveyor's leveling instrument helps determine how the ground will be leveled.

A close-up view of the removal of old brick and cement.

March 24, 2008: the day after Easter. Notice how flat the surface of the field has become.

The white pipes will help remove water from the field.

Much drainage capacity is important. Unlike a conventional field, a field with artificial surface cannot easily absorb water. It has to go somewhere else.

Meanwhile, out on Bishops Road, work is being done on connecting the drainage of the field with the city's sewage system.

Workers from the city work on this critical piece of the project.

Meanwhile, on the basketball courts, a trench is being dug in order to connect the field with the street. It's a good week to get this part of the project done: students, staff, and faculty are not here for the Easter Break. .

The pipe has to be cut just right.

The trench comes close to the old Football Coach's trailer.

Asphalt from the basketball courts is loaded onto the tractor to be taken away.

A piece of asphalt seems to float in air before falling into the tractor's scoop.

A small piece of stone from the cemetery days.

Different sizes of drainage pipe show the different volumes of water expected to be fed into the drainage system at a time of rain.
